With the traffic sources reports, you can quickly and easily the breakdown between the three possible sources of website traffic. They are:

Traffic which originated by clicking on a link to the website from a search engine results page. - Referring Sites
Traffic which originated by clicking a link to the website on another website. - Direct Traffic
Traffic which originates by typing the web address into the web browser's address bar or by using a bookmark.

Google Analytics' search engine traffic and search phrase reports allow monitoring of the search engines visitors are using to get to your website as well as the search phrases they used to find you, how long they stayed and how many pages they accessed while they were there. This information can either be simple or comprehensive, depending on requirements.

For example, if you want visitors to register with your website and this is a 3 step process, Google Analytics can report on how many people who start the process actually continue to the end of it. The results of this may prove that your process is either working well, or needs to be made more easy or attractive to the visitor.
